WHY KIMURA SOAP FOR BJJ

Mat Chemistry Meets Bad Soap

You just spent an hour in close, sustained contact with multiple training partners. On a mat shared with every class that came before yours. Your skin barrier is as exposed as it gets.

The soap in the gym shower was chosen by whoever stocks the dispenser. Not by you. And it is almost certainly loaded with the chemicals you have been working to avoid everywhere else in your life.

Here's the problem.

That body wash wasn't chosen by you. It was chosen by whoever stocks the gym. And it's almost certainly loaded with the three chemicals the naturally conscious athlete has been working to avoid everywhere else in their life.

the three chemicals in your post-training shower

Triclosan

Triclosan

The antibacterial agent linked to antibiotic-resistant bacteria — including MRSA.

It was banned from consumer hand soaps by the FDA in 2016. It's still in body wash. It's still in the gym dispenser. And it's absorbing into your skin at the exact moment your barrier is most vulnerable, right after rolling.

Parabens

Parabens

Synthetic preservatives that mimic estrogen in the body. Classified as endocrine disruptors.

Found in the majority of commercial body washes. Absorbed through the skin and detected in human tissue samples at rates that increase with frequency of use.

Pthalates

Pthalates

The chemicals used to make synthetic fragrances last longer. Also endocrine disruptors.

Hidden inside the word "fragrance" on the label — which means you'll never see them listed by name. You'll just absorb them.

The BJJ-Specific Exposure Problem

No other sport produces this combination of risk factors.

Sustained skin-to-skin contact with multiple partners. Shared mats across multiple classes per day. Friction, sweat, and abrasion that compromise the skin barrier before the shower even starts.

The cost of getting this wrong is specific. Skin rashes and breakouts that don't resolve. Weeks off the mat waiting for an issue to clear. Kids coming home from class with eczema flares the pediatrician traces back to chemical exposure. And the quiet, compounding problem that follows you home; the kind of irritation that gets you kicked out of bed.

Post-training hygiene isn't optional in this sport. It's the single most important defense an athlete has. And the soap most athletes are trusting it to was designed for the supermarket aisle… not for a body that was just in sustained contact with nine other people's skin.

what's in the bottle

Kimura Soap is built from organic saponified oils, functional essential oils, and plant-based ingredients with known antimicrobial properties.
Every ingredient is printed on the label. No proprietary fragrance blends. No mystery compounds.

Coconut, aloe vera, and other natural ingredients

the base

  • Saponified organic coconut, olive, and jojoba oils — the cleansing foundation.
  • Organic shea butter and aloe vera — the skin barrier support.
Essential Oils

the essential oils

  • Tea tree oil — antimicrobial and antifungal, the most studied essential oil for skin defense.
  • Peppermint and cornmint — cooling, circulation-supporting, and naturally antiseptic.
  • Cedarwood — anti-inflammatory and grounding.
  • Lavandin — calming, skin-soothing.
  • Orange — a natural degreaser with antibacterial properties.
Chemical reagents including a beaker with yellow liquid, a small bottle with red liquid, a spoon with white powder, and a dish with white powder.

what's not in it

  • No triclosan.
  • No parabens.
  • No phthalates.
  • No synthetic fragrance.
  • No dyes.
  • No animal testing.

Organic Where Commercial Is Synthetic

The commercial soap industry is built for volume. Synthetic preservatives extend shelf life. Synthetic fragrances mask cheap base ingredients.
Chemical antibacterials create the illusion of clean while contributing to the resistance problem they claim to solve.

Kimura is the opposite formulation, built for the opposite use case.

Small-batch production in Vermont. Certified to USDA organic standards by Vermont Organic Farmers. Saponified oils instead of detergent bases. Essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance. A formulation designed for the specific conditions of a BJJ training life — not a consumer packaged goods aisle.

The anti-big-corporation soap. By formulation and by design.

Built by Someone Who Trains

Kimura's founder, Christian, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt awarded in 2015 under Josh Russell at Gracie Barra — in the direct lineage of Carlos Gracie. He's trained since 2007, competed in the sport, coached thousands of athletes across North America, and built the product because the product he needed didn't exist.

He caught MRSA. He came home from training with skin issues his wife noticed the hard way. He looked at the body wash in the gym shower, read the label, and realized the thing that was supposed to clean him was part of the problem.

Kimura exists because of that moment. And it kept going because athletes kept ordering it, kept using it, and kept telling us their skin stopped breaking out.

Kimura Vs. Everything Else in your Shower

No other brand is simultaneously BJJ-specific, fully organic, triclosan-free, and American-made.
Every competitor loses at least one of those conditions.
